Before pursuing her M.B.A., Egzona was on the path to becoming a teacher. She wanted to help students grow not only academically, but personally as well-rounded individuals. Like many great business leaders, Egzona saw the importance of mentorship and community in helping individuals reach their full potential. After observing classrooms and navigating institutional constraints, she decided to take a step back and reimagine her future.

That decision led her to the School of Management, where the STEM-designated M.B.A. program was an attractive complement to her background in mathematics and economics. In her first year of the program, Egzona quickly noticed something special about the classroom experience at New York Tech: a sense of community and encouragement.

“You rise by lifting others,” she said. “None of us wants to fail. We’re all in the same boat working towards our degree, and genuinely want to help each other succeed.”

Egzona has also found meaningful ways to apply her coursework to real life. At ShopRite, where she has worked with the Greenfield family for years, she conducted research on inventory management challenges. She used what she learned in the classroom to analyze systems, identify inefficiencies, and propose solutions rooted in real-world experience. She also participated in the alumni mentor-mentee program with Gabrielle Smith M.S. ’96 and her husband Stephen Smith, who offered resume reviews, interview preparation, encouragement, and honest advice. Egzona expressed gratitude towards both the Greenfields and the Smiths—in allowing her to ask questions, believing in her work, and showing her the power of strong business leaders.

Looking ahead, Egzona is excited by the possibilities her M.B.A. will offer. Whether that’s pursuing a PhD, opening her own small business, or even returning to teaching at the college level, the School of Management has bridged the gap between her interests in research, business, and education. Like many of our students, Egzona’s story is about the power of a supportive academic community that helps rising business leaders reimagine what comes next.

Whether you are an alum or friend of the School of Management, you are part of a community that has provided students like Egzona with the tools to succeed.
