Nicholette always envisioned a future in healthcare, but at 18 she was still searching for the right path. During that time, she became a patient under the care of a compassionate and highly skilled physician assistant. It was an experience that introduced her to a profession rooted in connection and care. What began as curiosity turned into clarity as she later worked alongside PAs in an urgent care setting, ultimately leading her to the Physician Assistant program here at the School of Health Professions.

Now in her second year, Nicholette says with certainty, “It’s 1,000% clear I was meant to be at NYIT.” She credits faculty mentors like Dr. Ahmed, whom she describes as a cornerstone of the program, as well as Dr. Cotgreave and Dr. Wolf, both of whom inspire Nicholette in their roles as professors, working physician assistants, and moms, while still making time to support students, nonetheless.

“It's 1000% clear I was meant to be at NYIT.”

Nicholette – School of Health Professions
M.S. Class of 2027

At the School of Health Professions, the culture of care extends beyond academics into leadership, service, and community. As the Class of 2027 representative, Nicholette serves as a bridge between students and faculty, supports orientation and admissions interviews, and helps welcome newly accepted students into the program. She also recently participated in the Medical Outreach Program, a service trip to Athens, Greece that gave students across the School of Health Professions and College of Osteopathic Medicine hands-on experience caring for displaced refugees. There, Nicholette provided childcare and medical care, fundraised for supplies, attended training sessions, and applied her medical knowledge towards meaningful patient care.

As she prepares for clinical rotations, Nicholette is keeping an open mind. She is excited to explore different areas of medicine and discover where she fits best. No matter where her journey takes her, the School of Health Professions has prepared Nicholette for a career shaped by empathy, service, and professionalism.

Whether you are an alum or friend of the School of Health Professions, you are part of a community that has provided students like Nicholette with the tools to succeed.
